I describe myself as both direct and highly relational, placing a lot of value on honest feedback within the therapy setting. I believe the therapeutic relationship is an incredibly important part of the work. My hope is that clients feel comfortable being open and honest with me, while also knowing that the professional boundaries of therapy will always be respected. When a pattern comes up in session, I’ll bring it to your attention so we can explore it together with care and curiosity.

I’m glad you’re here! During your first appointment, I’ll talk with you about your concerns, gather some background information to help me understand you, and collaborate with you to uncover your goals and hopes for therapy. Future appointments will be structured around exploring and making progress toward your goals!
-
My current fees are:
$180 per 50-minute individual session
$360 per 100-minute individual session
$200 per 50-minute couple’s or family session
$300 per 80-minute couple’s or family session
The fees above reflect my most commonly booked session lengths. Because therapy can look different from person to person, session length may be adjusted based on client needs. If we adjust the length of a session, I’ll always communicate the associated fee ahead of time.
Fees for session are due at the end of each appointment. Payment is available by cash, credit or debit card, or HSA/FSA account to provide flexibility when possible!

Kara’s Counseling Co. is currently out of network, meaning that I do not accept insurance. I believe the private pay model allows for greater flexibility of care, protects client privacy, and provides clients with the greatest control and influence over their treatment. A superbill can be provided to submit for possible insurance reimbursement at the client’s request.

Therapy follows a different timeline for each unique individual, couple, or family. The timeline depends on what you bring in, what you’d like to work on, and how things change over time. As a collaborative process, the timeline can also change based on the work we do in session together as well as the effort you put in outside of session to meet your treatment goals.
Sometimes people come for a relatively short time, like several weeks or a few months, to address a specific concern. Other times, therapy lasts longer, especially when there are several things to work through or goals you’d like to accomplish.
Usually “finished” doesn’t mean you have to be completely free of all problems. We’ll regularly check in about your progress and goals to determine a natural stopping point. If you ever wonder ‘do I still need therapy?’ that’s something we can talk about openly. You don’t have to figure it out by yourself!
-
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours’ notice will not incur a fee. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice and no-shows are subject to the full session fee.
-
I am not a crisis responder and thus not available 24/7. Because of this, I cannot be expected to respond to urgent or crisis-related messages outside of scheduled sessions. If you are experiencing an emergency or need immediate support, please call 911 or 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) for immediate assistance.
-
Yes, I offer both in-person and virtual appointments for those located in Arizona through a HIPAA compliant platform.
